Professor Vouhé is one of the most prominent congenital heart surgeons in Europe. He is known not only for his large clinical experience and skills, but also for his innovative approach to the current problems in correction of congenital anomalies of the heart. He is also Section Editor of Congenital heart disease in the Multimedia Manual of Cardiothoracic Surgery. During the September 2008 EACTS meeting in Lisbon, he took some time with us to record a podcast interview about the current issues in his special field. I asked him if congenital surgery can still be performed by an adult cardiac surgeon, about duration of training in congenital heart surgery, who should be taking care of GUCH patients, and about the optimal organization of congenital heart surgery units.
